1601 - He said: Abu Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: 'Awf narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn Hind al-Jamali, who said: 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say: "Indeed, faith begins as a white speck in the heart. Every time faith increases, the whiteness increases; and when faith is perfected, the heart becomes white. And indeed, hypocrisy begins as a black speck in the heart. Every time hypocrisy increases, the blackness increases; and when hypocrisy is perfected, the entire heart becomes black. By Allah, by Allah, if you were to split open the heart of a believer, you would find it white, and if you were to split open the heart of a hypocrite, you would find it black."
