1640 - Abu 'Abd Allah narrated to us, saying: Waki' narrated to us, saying: al-A'mash narrated to us, from 'Umarah, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, who said: 'Abd Allah said: "Recognize the hypocrite by three [signs]: when he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he breaks it; and when he enters into a covenant, he acts treacherously." Then he recited: "And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], 'If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity and will surely be among the righteous.'" [At-Tawbah: 75] until His saying: "...for what they lied" [At-Tawbah: 77].
