1711 - Abu Bakr al-Marrudhi informed us, saying: I said to Abu 'Abd Allah: 'I pass by the village of a Jahmi and I have no provisions with me; do you think I should go hungry (tawi) [without eating]? He said: "Yes, go hungry and do not buy anything from him." And al-Marrudhi said in another place, he said: I asked Abu 'Abd Allah, I said: 'Should I sell a garment to a man whose speech and dealing I dislike, meaning a Jahmi?' He said: "Leave me until I consider." When it was after I asked him about it, he said: "Avoid transacting with him." I said to Abu 'Abd Allah: 'What if I transacted with him and I did not know?' He said: "If you are able to rescind the sale, then do so." I said: 'If it is not possible for me, should I give the price in charity?' He said: "I dislike causing people to do this, so that their wealth might be lost." I said: 'Then what should I do?' He said: "I do not know; I dislike speaking regarding it at all." I said: 'I only wish to know your position.' He said: "Did you not sell it while not knowing him?" I said: 'Yes.' He said: "I dislike speaking regarding it at all, but the least that can be done here is that you give the profit in charity, and avoid their transactions."
