"Say, whoever is an enemy to Gabriel - it is he who has brought it down upon your heart, by permission of Allah" [2:97], meaning: he brought down the Quran, "confirming what came before it" from the Book of Allah, may He be exalted.
Qatadah said: It was mentioned to us that Umar ibn al-Khattab approached a group of Jews, and when they saw him, they welcomed him. He said: "By Allah, I did not come out of love for you, nor out of a desire for you, but rather I came to hear from you." ﴿قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ فَإِنَّهُ نَزَّلَهُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ بِإِذْنِ الله﴾ يَعْنِي: نزل الْقُرْآن ﴿مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَين يَدَيْهِ﴾ من كتاب اللَّه ﷿.
قَالَ قَتَادَة: ذكر لنا أَن عُمَر بْن الخَطَّاب أَتَى نَفرا من الْيَهُود، فَلَمَّا أبصروه رحبوا بِهِ؛ فَقَالَ: أما وَالله مَا جِئْت لِحُبِّكُمْ، وَلا لرغبة فِيكُم، وَلَكِن جِئْت لأسْمع مِنْكُم. فَسَأَلَهُمْ وسألوه؛ فَقَالُوا لَهُ: من صَاحب صَاحبكُم؟ قَالَ: جِبْرِيل. قَالَ: قَالُوا: ذَاك عدونا من أهل السَّمَاء يطلع مُحَمَّدًا عَلَى سرنا؛ وَهُوَ
