"Our Lord, and send among them"—meaning: among his descendants—"a messenger from themselves." So Allah answered his prayer and sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) from the descendants of Abraham, whose face and lineage they knew. "He shall recite to them Your verses, teach them the Book and Wisdom, and purify them." Qatadah said: The Book is the Qur'an, and Wisdom is the Sunnah. Regarding "and purify them," some said it means: he takes their alms; and it is purification. "Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise." The Exalted in Might in His retribution, the Wise in His command.
