"Lest there be for the people any argument against you." The interpretation of al-Hasan: God - the Exalted - informed him that He would never turn him away from the Kaaba to anything else, such that those who would argue might use that as an argument against him, just as the polytheists of the Arabs argued against him in their saying: "You turned away from the qibla of your fathers, then returned to it." "Except for those who have wronged among them." Al-Hasan said: No one argues with such an argument except those who have wronged: "So do not fear them" regarding My command, meaning: proceed with what I command you to do, "but fear Me" in neglecting it.
﴿لِئَلَّا يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَيْكُمْ حُجَّةٌ﴾ تَفْسِير الحَسَن: أخبرهُ اللَّه - تَعَالَى - أَنَّهُ لَا يحوله عَنِ الْكَعْبَة إِلَى غَيرهَا أبدا فيحتج عَلَيْهِ بذلك محتجون؛ كَمَا احْتج عَلَيْهِ مشركو الْعَرَب فِي قَوْلهم: رغبت عَنْ قبْلَة آبَائِك، ثمَّ رجعت إِلَيْهَا ﴿إِلا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْهُمْ﴾ قَالَ الحَسَن: لَا يحْتَج بِمثل تِلْكَ الْحجَّة، إِلَّا الَّذين ظلمُوا: ﴿فَلَا تخشوهم﴾ فِي أَمْرِي، يَعْنِي: امضوا عَلَى مَا آمركُم بِهِ ﴿واخشوني﴾ فِي تَركه.
