{And there is life for you in retaliation,} meaning: survival; for a man fears retaliation, and thus it is a life for him. {O people of understanding,} meaning: those with intellects: the believers, {that you may become righteous,} so that you may avoid killing.
﴿وَلكم فِي الْقصاص حَيَاة﴾ أَي: بَقَاء؛ يخَاف الرجل الْقصاص؛ وَهِي بذلك حَيَاة لَهُ ﴿يَا أولي الْأَلْبَاب﴾ الْعُقُول: يَعْنِي: الْمُؤمنِينَ ﴿لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ﴾ لكَي تتقوا الْقَتْل.
