"And stand before Allah, devoutly obedient," meaning: obedient.
Muhammad said: The meaning of "devoutly obedient" (qanitin) here: meaning, refraining from speech; and the root of al-qanut is: obedience.
﴿وَقومُوا لله قَانِتِينَ﴾ أَي: مُطِيعِينَ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: معنى ﴿قَانِتِينَ﴾ هُنَا: أَي: ممسكين عَنِ الْكَلَام؛ وأصل القتوت: الطَّاعَة.
