"And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind, a bequest for their wives: maintenance for a year without being turned out." Qatadah's interpretation: He said: When a woman's husband died, she was provided for from his wealth for a year as long as she did not leave; if she left, she had no maintenance. The year was abrogated by His saying: "And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind, they shall wait four months and ten days" (Verse 234), and the maintenance for the year in this verse was abrogated by: "And for them is one-fourth of what..."
﴿وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا وَصِيَّةً لأَزْوَاجِهِمْ مَتَاعًا إِلَى الْحَوْلِ غير إِخْرَاج﴾ تَفْسِير قَتَادَة: قَالَ: كَانَت الْمَرْأَة إِذا توفّي عَنْهَا زَوجهَا ينْفق عَلَيْهَا من مَاله حولا مَا لم تخرج؛ فَإِن خرجت، فَلَا نَفَقَة لَهَا؛ فنسخ الْحول فِي قَوْله: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعشرا﴾ (ل ٣٥) وَنسخ النَّفَقَة فِي الْحول فِي هَذِه الْآيَة: (وَلَهُنَّ الرُّبُعُ مِمَّا
