"(They are) deaf, dumb, blind" (2:18): deaf to guidance, so they do not hear it; dumb regarding it, so they do not speak it; blind to it, so they do not see it. "So they do not return" (2:18), meaning: they do not repent from their hypocrisy. [Verses 19-20]
﴿صم بكم عمي﴾ صم عَنِ الْهدى، فَلَا يسمعونه، بكم عَنْهُ؛ فَلَا ينطقون بِهِ، عمي عَنْهُ؛ فَلَا يبصرونه. ﴿فَهُمْ لَا يرجعُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: لَا يتوبون من نفاقهم. [آيَة ١٩ - ٢٠]
