"[The] patient and the truthful," meaning: their intentions were truthful, and their hearts and tongues remained steadfast both in secret and in public. "And the devoutly obedient," meaning: the obedient ones. "And those who seek forgiveness," meaning: the people of prayer. He says: Are these and the disbelievers equal? Meaning: they are not equal in the sight of Allah. [Verses 18-19]
﴿الصابرين والصادقين﴾ أَي: صدقت نيتهم، واستقامت قُلُوبهم وألسنتهم فِي السِّرّ وَالْعَلَانِيَة ﴿وَالْقَانِتِينَ﴾ يَعْنِي: المطيعين ﴿والمستغفرين﴾ يَعْنِي: أهل الصَّلاة. يَقُولُ: هَلْ يَسْتَوِي هَؤُلاءِ وَالْكفَّار؟ أَي: أَنهم لَا يستوون عِنْد الله. [آيَة ١٨ - ١٩]
