His Book? And they do not acknowledge that Allah revealed it; rather, they say to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "If you are truthful, what did Allah intend by this as an example?" So Allah revealed: "Indeed, Allah is not shy to set forth an example, even that of a mosquito or what is above it," meaning: an example of a mosquito. The word "ma" (that) in this context is extra (za'idah). "Or what is above it" means: or what is larger than it. "And He misleads none thereby except the defiantly disobedient," meaning: the polytheists.
كِتَابه؟ ﴿وَلَيْسَ يقرونَ أَن اللَّه أنزلهُ، وَلَكِن يَقُولُونَ للنَّبِي ﷺ: إِن كنت
صَادِقا، فَمَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّه بِهَذَا مثلا؟﴾ فَأنْزل اللَّه: ﴿إِن الله لَا يستحي أَنْ يَضْرِبَ مَثَلا مَا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقهَا﴾ أَي: مثلا بعوضة ((مَا)) فِي هَذَا الْموضع زَائِدَة ﴿فَمَا فَوْقَهَا﴾ يَعْنِي: فَمَا أكبر مِنْهَا. ﴿وَمَا يضل بِهِ إِلَّا الْفَاسِقين﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُشْركين
