Meaning: its covenants.
His saying: "And do not be divided, and remember the favor of Allah upon you," meaning: be grateful for the favor of Allah upon you, "when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together" through faith, "and you became" meaning: you ended up, "by His favor, brothers; and you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it" through Islam.
Muhammad said: His saying "the edge of a pit" means the brink of a pit; that is, you had reached the precipice of the Fire. [Verses 104-109]
يَعْنِي: عهودها.
قَوْله: ﴿وَلا تَفَرَّقُوا واذْكُرُوا نعْمَة الله عَلَيْكُم﴾ أَي: اشكروا نعْمَة الله عَلَيْكُم ﴿إِذْ كُنْتُمْ أَعْدَاءً فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبكُمْ﴾ بِالْإِيمَان ﴿فأصبحتم﴾ يَعْنِي: فصرتم ﴿بِنِعْمَتِهِ إِخْوَانًا وَكُنْتُمْ عَلَى شَفَا حُفْرَةٍ مِنَ النَّارِ فأنقذكم مِنْهَا﴾ بِالْإِسْلَامِ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّد: قَوْله: ﴿شَفَا حُفْرَة﴾ يَعْنِي: حرف حُفْرَة؛ أَي: قد كُنْتُم أشرفتم على النَّار. [آيَة ١٠٤ - ١٠٩]
