"And Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him." The verse. Regarding the interpretation of Qatadah, he said: This was on the day of Uhud, when wounds and killing afflicted them. Some of them said: If he were a prophet, he would not have been killed. A group of the noble companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: Fight for that which your Prophet fought for, until Allah grants you victory or you join him. So Allah said: "And Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels?" He says: You would apostatize [on your heels] as disbelievers after your faith. "And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all." He only harms himself. "And Allah will reward the grateful," meaning: the believers, He will reward them with Paradise.

Muhammad said: It is said of whoever was upon something, then turned back from it: He has turned back on his heels. [Verse 145]
