"And the wives of your sons who are from your own loins," so the wife of his son is not lawful for him, nor the wife of his son's son, nor the wife of his daughter's son, nor those below them. Allah only said: "Who are from your own loins" because a man would adopt a man during the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era), and the Prophet (peace be upon him) had adopted Zayd; therefore, Allah made it lawful [for him] to marry the wives of those who were adopted, and indeed the Prophet (peace be upon him) married the wife of Zayd after he had divorced her. "And that you take in marriage two sisters simultaneously, except what has already passed," meaning what occurred before the prohibition. If she is his sister through his father and mother, or his sister through his father, (or his sister through his mother, or through nursing) - she is a sister. All lineage and nursing relations regarding bondswomen are the same as those for free women. [Verse 24]
