"And the married women from among women" (al-muhsanat), the muhsanat here refers to those who have husbands. It means: "Prohibited to you are your mothers, your daughters..." up to this verse. Then He says: "And the married women from among women," meaning: And prohibited to you are the married women, "except what your right hands possess," meaning: from the captives. So if a woman from among the people of shirk (polytheism) is taken captive, and she has a husband, then she falls into the share of a man: if she is from the People of the Book and is pregnant, he shall not have intercourse with her until she delivers. If she is not pregnant, he shall not approach her until she has her menses. If she does not have a husband, the ruling is the same. If she is from other than the People of the Book, he shall not have intercourse with her.
