"[Chaste] not committing illicit sexual intercourse." Mujahid said: This means marrying without committing fornication. "So what you enjoy of them," Mujahid said: This refers to marriage. "Give them" means: give them "their dowries" (ujur), and he said: these are their bridal gifts (sadaqat). "As an obligation." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) permitted temporary marriage (mut'ah) on the day of the conquest of Mecca for a fixed term, provided that they do not inherit from one another and are not inherited from, then he forbade it after three days. Thus, it became abrogated; the laws of inheritance and the waiting period (idda) abrogated it. "And there is no blame upon you for what you mutually agree to beyond the obligation." Al-Hasan said: There is no harm for a man if a woman forfeits a portion of the bridal gift that was stipulated for her, as in His saying: "But if they give up anything thereof to you, then take it in satisfaction and ease" [Verses 25-26].
