"O you who have believed, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly," meaning: through oppression. "Except it be a trade," meaning: a lawful trade that contains no usury, "by mutual consent among you. And do not kill yourselves."
Yahya, from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad, from Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, sent a man in a military expedition, and he sustained a wound. Then a state of ritual impurity (janaba) befell him, so he prayed without performing ghusl. His companions criticized him for that, and when they arrived at the Prophet, peace be upon him, they mentioned it to him. He sent for him, and when he came, he informed him of it, then God, may He be exalted, revealed: "And do not kill yourselves; indeed, God is ever to you Merciful."
