The Jew said: "Come with us to Muhammad so that we may seek judgment from him." The hypocrite said: "Rather, to Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf," and he is the Taghut in this context.
Al-Kalbi said: The hypocrite refused to have him judged by the Prophet, while the Jew refused to have him judged by anyone but the Prophet. They disputed before the Prophet, and he ruled in favor of the Jew. When they left him, the hypocrite said: "Come with us to Umar ibn al-Khattab, that I may dispute with you before him." The Jew went with him, and they entered upon Umar. The Jew said to him: "O Umar, I and this man disputed before Muhammad, and he ruled in my favor against him. This man was not satisfied with his judgment and claimed that he would dispute with me before you." Umar said to the hypocrite: "Is that so?" He replied: "Yes." He said: "Wait for me both of you until I come out to you." He went into the house, seized his sword, then came out to the hypocrite and struck him until he died.
فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيّ: انْطلق بِنَا إِلَى مُحَمَّد نَخْتَصِم إِلَيْهِ. وَقَالَ الْمُنَافِق: بل إِلَى كَعْب ابْن الْأَشْرَف؛ وَهُوَ الطاغوت هَا هُنَا.
قَالَ الْكَلْبِيّ: فَأبى الْمُنَافِق أَن يخاصمه إِلَى النَّبي، وأبى الْيَهُودِيّ إِلَّا أَن يخاصمه إِلَى النَّبي؛ فاختصما إِلَى النَّبي، فقضي لِلْيَهُودِيِّ، فَلَمَّا خرجا من عِنْده، قَالَ الْمُنَافِق: انْطلق بِنَا إِلَى عُمَر بْن الخَطَّاب أخاصمك إِلَيْهِ، فَأقبل مَعْهُ الْيَهُودِيّ؛ فدخلا على عمر، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْيَهُودِيّ: يَا عُمَر إِنِّي اختصمت أَنَا وَهَذَا الرجل إِلَى مُحَمَّد؛ فَقضى لي عَلَيْهِ، فَلم يرض هَذَا بِقَضَائِهِ، وَزعم أَنَّهُ يخاصمني إِلَيْك، فَقَالَ عُمَر لِلْمُنَافِقِ: أَكَذَلِك؟ قَالَ: نعم، فَقَالَ: رويدكما؛ حتَّى أخرج إلَيْكُمَا؛ فَدخل الْبَيْت فَاشْتَمَلَ على السَّيْف، ثُمَّ خرج إِلَى الْمُنَافِق فَضَربهُ حتَّى برد.
