"Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah," meaning: in the obedience of Allah, "and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of Taghut [idolatry/false deities]," which is Satan. "So fight against the allies of Satan," and they are the polytheists, "indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak." He informed them that they would prevail over them, according to the exegesis of al-Hasan. [Ayah 77-78]
﴿الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ الله﴾ أَي: فِي طَاعَة الله ﴿وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ الطَّاغُوتِ﴾ الشَّيْطَان ﴿فَقَاتلُوا أَوْلِيَاء الشَّيْطَان﴾ وهم الْمُشْركُونَ ﴿إِنَّ كَيْدَ الشَّيْطَانِ كَانَ ضَعِيفا﴾ أخْبرهُم أَنَّهُم يظهرون عَلَيْهِم؛ فِي تَفْسِير الْحسن. [آيَة ٧٧ - ٧٨]
