His saying: "O you who have believed, when you go forth in the cause of Allah, verify; and do not say to one who gives you a greeting, 'You are not a believer,' seeking the fleeting possessions of the worldly life; for with Allah are many spoils. You [yourselves] were like that before; then Allah conferred His favor upon you, so investigate. Indeed, Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted." [Verse 94: Note: The numbering in the original text indicates verses 87-91, which relate to the surrounding narrative in the Tafsir].
"Not equal are those believers who remain [at home], other than the disabled, and the mujahidin, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives. Allah has preferred the mujahidin through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind], by degrees; and to both Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the mujahidin over those who remain [behind] with a great reward."
"Degrees from Him and forgiveness and mercy. And Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful."
"Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while they are wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, 'In what [condition] were you?' They will say, 'We were oppressed in the land.' They [the angels] will say, 'Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?' For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination."
