"wa illa tasrif 'anni kaydahunna" (And if You do not avert their plot from me). Al-Hasan said: The women had indeed assisted her against him. "asbu ilayhinna" (I might incline toward them)—that is, I might follow them.
Muhammad [Ibn Abi Zamanin] said: The meaning is: incline toward them with the inclination of ignorance and youthful passion. It is said: 'saba fulan ila al-lahw yasbu saba' (such-and-such person inclined toward amusement and yearned for it) when he leans toward it. Durayd ibn al-Simma said:
He yearned and yearned until gray hair crowned his head, then when it crowned it, he said to falsehood: 'Be gone.'
