"thumma bada lahum min ba'di ma ra'u al-ayat" (Then it appeared to them after they had seen the signs). Mujahid said: This refers to the tearing of the shirt from behind.
"layasjununnahu hatta hin" (They would surely imprison him for a time). Al-Kalbi said: It has reached us that she said to her husband: You believed him and called me a liar, and you have disgraced me in the city. I will not seek to please you unless you imprison Joseph, make his case heard, and excuse me. So he ordered that Joseph be carried on a donkey, then he had it proclaimed by drum: This is Joseph the Hebrew, who sought to seduce his mistress. He was then paraded through all the markets of Egypt, after which he was cast into prison.
Surah Yusuf from verse (36) to verse (42).
﴿ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوْا الْآيَات﴾ قَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: يَعْنِي: قَدَّ الْقَمِيصِ مِنْ دبرٍ.
﴿لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُ حَتَّى حِينٍ﴾ قَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ:
بَلَغَنَا أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ لِزَوْجِهَا: صَدَّقْتَهُ وَكَذَّبْتَنِي، وَفَضَحْتَنِي فِي الْمَدِينَةِ، فَأَنَا غَيْرُ سَاعِيَةٍ فِي رِضَاكَ إِنْ لَمْ تَسْجُنْ يُوسُفَ، وَتُسَمِّعْ بِهِ وَتَعْذُرْنِي؛ فَأَمَرَ بِيُوسُفَ يُحْمَلُ عَلَى حِمَارٍ، ثُمَّ ضُرِبَ بِالطَّبْلِ: هَذَا يُوسُفُ الْعِبْرَانِيُّ، أَرَادَ سَيِّدَتَهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهَا فَطَوَّفَ بِهِ أَسْوَاقَ مِصْرَ كُلَّهَا، ثُمَّ أُدْخِلَ السجْن.
