"Then there will come after that seven hard [years]"—meaning seven years of drought—"which will consume what you have stored for them" during the fertile years, "except for a little of what you have fortified," meaning what you have saved.
﴿ثُمَّ يَأْتِي مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ سبع شَدَّاد﴾ يَعْنِي: سَبْعَ سِنِينَ مجدبةٍ ﴿يَأْكُلْنَ مَا قدمتم لَهُنَّ﴾ فِي السِّنِينَ الْمُخْصَبَاتِ ﴿إِلا قَلِيلا مِمَّا تحصنون﴾ أَي: تدخرون.
