"And he said to his young men," meaning his servants, "'Put their merchandise into their saddlebags,'" meaning their dirhams among their goods, "'so that they might recognize it'"—he says: "If their merchandise is returned to them, it will be more likely that they will return to me."
﴿وَقَالَ لفتيانه﴾ يَعْنِي غِلْمَانِهِ ﴿اجْعَلُوا بِضَاعَتَهُمْ فِي رحالهم﴾ أَيْ: دَرَاهِمَهُمْ فِي مَتَاعِهِمْ ﴿لَعَلَّهُمْ يرجعُونَ﴾ يَقُولُ: إِذَا رُدَّتْ إِلَيْهِمْ بِضَاعَتُهُمْ، كَانَ أَحْرَى أَنْ يَرْجِعُوا إِلَيَّ
