"O my sons, go and seek information about Joseph and his brother." Al-Suddi said: He means, "Search for news of them." "And despair not of the mercy of Allah," meaning: the mercy of Allah.

﴿يَا بَنِيَّ اذْهَبُوا فَتَحَسَّسُوا مِنْ يُوسُف وأخيه﴾ قَالَ السُّدِّيُّ: يَعْنِي تَبْحَثُوا عَنْ خبرهما ﴿وَلَا تيئسوا من روح الله﴾ يَعْنِي: رَحْمَة الله.
