'O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that.' Al-Hasan said: They asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about matters of the pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah) which Allah had already pardoned, and they persisted until the Messenger of Allah became extremely angry. He said: 'Ask me, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, you will not ask me about anything except that I will inform you of it until the Day of Resurrection.'
﴿يَا أَيهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ وَإِنْ تَسْأَلُوا عَنْهَا حِينَ يُنَزَّلُ الْقُرْآنُ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ عَفَا اللَّهُ عَنْهَا﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ أُمُورِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الَّتِي قَدْ عَفَا اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَأَكْثَرُوا؛ حَتَّى غَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ غَضَبًا شَدِيدًا، فَقَالَ: سَلُونِي فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَا تَسْأَلُونِي عَنْ شيءٍ إِلَّا أَنْبَأْتُكُمْ بِهِ إِلَى يَوْم الْقِيَامَة ".
