Mujahid: "And We favor some of them over others in [quality of] fruit." Mujahid said: It means some of them are better to eat than others.
Muhammad said: "Al-ukul" (fruit/food) refers to everything that is eaten, and "al-ukul" is the verbal noun derived from "akaltu" (I ate).
"Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason," so they know that He who created this is capable of resurrecting the dead.
مُجَاهِدٍ ﴿وَنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فِي الْأكل﴾ قَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ: يَقُولُ: بَعْضُهَا أَطْيَبُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْأُكُلُ: كُلُّ مَا يُؤْكَلُ، وَالأُكُلُ مَصْدَرُ أَكَلْتُ.
﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ﴾ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ الَّذِي صَنَعَ هَذَا قادرٌ عَلَى أَنْ يحيي الْمَوْتَى.
