"It is the same among you whether one conceals their speech or speaks openly" – he says: that is, to Allah, his secret and his manifestation are the same. "And he who is hidden by night" – meaning: whom the night shadows – "and goes forth by day" – meaning: is apparent. He says: all of that is the same to Allah.
Muhammad says: It is said: "Sārib" (goes forth) means: apparent. Some have cited the verse of a poet addressing a woman:
How did you travel by night while you were not one to appear in the open? And the approach of dreams is not a close one.
He says: You were not among those who step out and appear to people, so how did you traverse the distance to us in
﴿سواءٌ مِنْكُمْ مَنْ أَسَرَّ الْقَوْلَ وَمن جهر بِهِ﴾ يَقُولُ: ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سواءٌ سِرُّهُ وَعَلانِيَتُهُ ﴿وَمَنْ هُوَ مُسْتَخْفٍ بِاللَّيْلِ﴾ أَيْ: يُظِلُّهُ اللَّيْلُ ﴿وساربٌ بِالنَّهَارِ﴾ أَي: ظَاهر، يَقُول: ذَلِك (ل ١٦٠) كُلُّهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ سَوَاءٌ.
قَالَ محمدٌ: قيل: ﴿ساربٌ﴾ مَعْنَاهُ: ظاهرٌ وَأَنْشَدَ بَعْضُهُمْ لشاعرٍ يُخَاطِبُ امْرَأَةً:
(أَنَّى سَرَيْتِ وَكُنْتِ غَيْرَ سَرُوبِ … وَتَقَرُّبُ الْأَحْلامِ غَيْرُ قَرِيبِ﴾ يَقُولُ: لمْ تَكُونِي مِمَّنْ يَبْرُزُ وَيَظَهْرُ لِلنَّاسِ، فَكَيْفَ تَخَطَّيْتِ الْبُعْدَ إِلَيْنَا فِي
