"Say, 'Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?' Say, 'Allah.'" Thus, when they acknowledge that, say: "'Have you then taken instead of Him allies?'"—meaning: their idols—"'who possess not for themselves any benefit or harm?'" This is an interrogative used to confirm knowledge, meaning: you have indeed done so.
"Say, 'Is the blind equivalent to the seeing?'"
This is a parable for the disbeliever and the believer; the disbeliever is blind to guidance, while the believer has perceived faith. "'Or are the darknesses and the light equivalent?'"—this is an inquiry, meaning: that these are not equivalent.
"'Or have they attributed to Allah partners who created like His creation so that the creation seemed similar to them?'" The interpretation of al-Hasan: He says: Do they claim that those idols created something along with Allah, such that they did not know which of the creators they should worship? Did they see that? And are they able to use that as an argument against Allah on the Day of Resurrection? Meaning: they do not claim that, and they admit that Allah created everything, so how could they worship these idols instead of Allah? Then Allah said: "'Say, 'Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing.'"
