"He will gulp it, but he will barely be able to swallow it," because of his aversion to it, yet he must swallow it, for he has no choice. Consequently, his bowels will be severed.
Muhammad said: The meaning of "to swallow it" (yusighuhu) is: to gulp it down.
"And death shall come to him from every place," meaning: from the Fire, yet God has decreed that they shall not die. This is the interpretation of al-Hasan.
"And beyond him is a harsh punishment," like His saying: "So taste (the punishment), for We shall increase you in nothing but punishment."
﴿يتجرعه وَلَا يكَاد يسيغه﴾ مِنْ كَرَاهِيَتِهِ لَهُ، وَهُوَ يُسِيغُهُ لابُدَّ لَهُ مِنْهُ، فَتَتَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَاؤُهُ.
قَالَ محمدٌ معنى (يسيغه): يَبْتَلِعُهُ.
﴿وَيَأْتِيهِ الْمَوْتُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَان﴾ وَهِيَ النَّارُ، وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ قَضَى عَلَيْهِمْ أَلا يَمُوتُوا؛ هَذَا تَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ.
﴿وَمِنْ وَرَائِهِ عذابٌ غَلِيظٌ﴾ كَقَوْلِهِ: ﴿فَذُوقُوا فَلَنْ نَزِيدَكُمْ إِلا عذَابا﴾.
