"And the earth, We have extended it," meaning: We have spread it out. "And We cast therein firm mountains," meaning: We have placed in it mountains. "And We caused to grow therein from every thing weighing," meaning: measured out by a decree; this is according to the commentary of Mujahid.
Muhammad said: The meaning of Mujahid's statement is that it proceeds according to a measure from God's decree, not exceeding what God has ordained for it.
﴿وَالْأَرْض مددناها﴾ يَعْنِي: بسطناها ﴿وألقينا﴾ أَي: جعلنَا ﴿فِيهَا رواسي﴾ وَهِيَ الْجِبَالَ ﴿وَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كل شيءٍ مَوْزُون﴾ أَيْ: مَقْدُورٍ بِقَدَرٍ؛ فِي تَفْسِيرِ مُجَاهِدٍ.
قَالَ محمدٌ: مَعْنَى قَوْلِ مُجَاهِدٍ: أَيْ: جَرَى عَلَى وزنٍ مِنْ قَدَرٍ اللَّهِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ مَا قدره الله عَلَيْهِ.
