"And they used to carve out houses from the mountains, feeling secure."
Muhammad said: Al-Hijr is the name of a valley, and the root of the word 'naht' (carving) is cutting and shaping.
﴿وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنين﴾.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْحِجْرُ اسْمُ وادٍ، وأصل النحت: الْقطع والنجر.
