(Amwatun ghayru ahya'in wa-ma yash'uruna ayyana yub'athun) - meaning: when will they be resurrected?
Qatadah said: The idols themselves will be gathered and will argue against their worshippers before Allah, [asserting] that they did not call them to worship them; rather, it was the devils who called them to that.
﴿أَمْوَاتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَاءٍ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يبعثون﴾ مَتَى يُبْعَثُونَ.
قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: تُحْشَرُ الأَوْثَانُ بِأَعْيَانِهَا؛ فَتُخَاصِمُ عَابِدِيهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ؛ أَنَّهَا لمْ تَدْعُهُمْ إِلَى عِبَادَتِهَا، وَإِنَّمَا كَانَ دَعَاهُمْ إِلَى ذَلِك الشَّيَاطِين.
