[Those whom the angels take in death while they are wronging themselves]. Al-Hasan's interpretation: a death leading to the Fire; meaning: a gathering. [And they will offer submission], Al-Hasan said: meaning, they will offer submission and surrender, yet it will not be accepted from them. [We were not doing any evil], Al-Hasan said: Indeed, there are stations on the Day of Resurrection; among them is a station where they will confess their evil deeds, a station where they will deny them, and a station where their mouths will be sealed, their hands will speak, and their feet will bear witness to what they used to do.
Surah an-Nahl, from verse (30) to verse (32).
﴿الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلائِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ﴾ تَفْسِيرُ الْحَسَنِ: وفاةٌ إِلَى النَّارِ؛ أَي: حشرٌ ﴿فَألْقوا السّلم﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: أُعْطَوُا الإِسْلامَ وَاسْتَسْلَمُوا؛ فَلَمْ يُقْبَلْ مِنْهُمْ ﴿مَا كُنَّا نعمل من سوء﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: إِنَّ فِي الْقِيَامَةِ مَوَاطِنَ، فَمِنْهَا مَوْطِنٌ يُقِرُّونَ فِيهِ بِأَعْمَالِهِمُ الْخَبِيثَةِ، وَمِنْهَا مَوْطِنٌ يُنْكِرُونَ فِيهِ، وَمِنْهَا مَوْطِنٌ يَخْتِمُ عَلَى أَفْوَاهِهِمْ، وَتَتَكَّلَمُ أَيْدِيهِمْ، وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يعْملُونَ.
