"And they assign to what they do not know a portion"—meaning: their gods; that is, they assign to that which they do not know to have created anything alongside Allah, nor to have caused death, nor to have given life, nor to have provided sustenance alongside Him, "a portion of that which We have provided them." He means His saying: "And they assign to Allah from that which He created of crops and livestock a portion and say, 'This is for Allah,' by their claim, 'and this is for our partners.'" Allah, may He be exalted, says: "By Allah," an oath in which He swears by Himself, "you will surely be questioned about what you used to fabricate."
Muhammad says: The meaning is: You will be questioned about that—a questioning of reprimand—until you confess it against yourselves and bind yourselves with the evidence.
Surah An-Nahl from verse (57) to verse (61).
﴿وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا﴾ يَعْنِي: آلِهَتَهُمْ؛ أَيْ: يَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ خَلَقَ مَعَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا، وَلا أَمَاتَ وَلا أَحْيَا وَلا رَزَقَ مَعَهُ شَيْئًا ﴿نَصِيبا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ﴾ يَعْنِي: قَوْلَهُ: ﴿وَجَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ مِمَّا ذَرَأَ مِنَ الْحَرْثِ وَالأَنْعَامِ نَصِيبًا فَقَالُوا هَذَا لِلَّهِ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَهَذَا لشركائنا﴾ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷿: ﴿تَاللَّهِ﴾ قسمٌ يقسم بِنَفسِهِ ﴿لتسئلن عَمَّا كُنْتُم تفترون﴾.
قَالَ محمدٌ: الْمَعْنَى: تُسْأَلُونَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ - سُؤَالَ تَوْبِيخٍ - حَتَّى تَعْتَرِفُوا بِهِ عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ، وَتُلْزِمُوا أَنْفُسَكُمُ الْحجَّة.
