"And when one of them is given the news of the birth of a female, his face darkens"—meaning: it changes—"and he is full of suppressed grief," meaning: suppressed with rage and sorrow.
(175) Muhammad said: The origin of the word al-kazm is: restraint.
﴿وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُمْ بِالأُنْثَى ظَلَّ وَجهه مسودا﴾ أَي: متغيراً ﴿وَهُوَ كظيم﴾ أَيْ: كظيمٌ عَلَى الْغَيْظِ وَالْحُزْنِ.
(ل ١٧٥) قَالَ محمدٌ: وَأَصْلُ الْكَظْمِ: الْحَبْسُ.
