"And indeed, messengers were mocked before you, so those who ridiculed them were beset by that which they used to mock," meaning: the punishment for their mockery descended upon them.
Surat al-An'am from verse (11) to verse (17).
﴿وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يستهزئون﴾ يَعْنِي: نَزَلَ بِهِمْ عُقُوبَةُ اسْتِهْزَائِهِمْ.
