"And the Day We will gather them all, then We will say to those who associated others with Allah, 'Where are your partners?'" meaning: their idols.

"Then there will be no fitnah [excuse] of theirs" meaning: their excuse, "except that they will say, 'By Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists.'"
