"And they forbid [others] from it and distance themselves from it." Al-Hasan said: They forbid [others] from following Muhammad, and they distance themselves from him. "And they do not destroy except their own selves" through that, "and they perceive [it] not," that they are destroying their own selves.
Surah Al-An'am from verse (27) to verse (29).
﴿وهم ينهون عَنهُ وينئون عَنهُ﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ اتِّبَاعِ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَيَتَبَاعَدُونَ عَنْهُ ﴿وَإِنْ يُهْلِكُونَ إِلَّا أنفسهم﴾ بذلك ﴿وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ﴾ أَنهم يهْلكُونَ أنفسهم.
