"And warn by it"—meaning: by the Quran—"those who fear"—meaning: who know—"that they will be gathered to their Lord"—meaning: the believers; this is like His saying: "You can only warn one who follows the message"; only he who believes will accept from you.
"They have besides Him"—meaning: besides Allah—"no protector"—who could prevent them from His punishment—"nor intercessor"—who could intercede for them—if they are not believers.
"That they might"—referring to the polytheists—"become righteous"—meaning: so they may believe.
Surat al-An'am from verse (52) to verse (53).
﴿وأنذر بِهِ﴾ يَعْنِي: بِالْقُرْآنِ ﴿الَّذين يخَافُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿أَنْ يُحْشَرُوا إِلَى رَبهم﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُؤْمِنِينَ؛ هَذَا مِثْلُ قَوْلِهِ: ﴿إِنَّمَا تنذر بِهِ من اتبع الذّكر﴾ إِنَّمَا يَقْبَلُ مِنْكَ مَنْ آمَنَ.
﴿لَيْسَ لَهُم من دونه﴾ أَيْ: مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ ﴿وَلِيٌّ﴾ يَمْنَعُهُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِهِ ﴿وَلا شَفِيعٌ﴾ يَشْفَعُ لَهُمْ؛ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُونُوا مُؤمنين.
﴿لَعَلَّهُم﴾ لَعَلَّ الْمُشْركين ﴿يَتَّقُونَ﴾ هَذَا فيؤمنوا.
