Allah revealed this verse. The meaning of His saying: "seeking His Countenance" is that they seek Allah and His pleasure.
"Neither are you accountable for them in anything, nor are they accountable for you in anything," meaning the believers whom the Quraysh told him to drive away. He said: "lest you become among the wrongdoers," meaning: if you were to drive them away.
Muhammad said: "lest you become among the wrongdoers" is the response to "do not drive away," and His saying: "lest you drive them away" is the response to "neither are you accountable for them in anything, nor are they accountable for you in anything."
اللَّهُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ، وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ: ﴿يُرِيدُونَ وَجهه﴾ يُرِيدُونَ اللَّهَ وَرِضَاهُ.
﴿مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُؤمنِينَ الَّذين قَالَت لَهُ قُرَيْشٌ: اطْرُدْهُمْ. قَالَ: ﴿فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ فَتَكُونَ من الظَّالِمين﴾ أَيْ: إِنْ طَرَدْتَهُمْ.
قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ: ﴿فَتكون من الظَّالِمين﴾ هُوَ جَوَاب ﴿وَلَا تطرد﴾ وَقَوله: ﴿فَتَطْرُدهُمْ﴾ هُوَ جَوَابُ ﴿مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ﴾ ".
