"O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you when a people intended to extend their hands against you, but He withheld their hands from you." Al-Hasan said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in Batn Nakhl besieging Ghatafan, while he was wearing his sword. A man came to him whom the Quraysh had sent to assassinate the Messenger of Allah; he said: "O Muhammad, show me this sword of yours so that I may look at it." He replied: "Take it." He took it and began looking at the sword one moment and at the Messenger of Allah the next. He then said: "Do you not fear me, O Muhammad?" He replied: "No." So he sheathed his sword, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded his companions to depart."
﴿يَا أَيهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَنْ يبسطوا إِلَيْكُم أَيْديهم فَكف أَيْدِيكُم عَنْكُم﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ:
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِبَطْنِ نَخْلٍ مُحَاصِرًا غَطْفَانَ، وَهُوَ مُتَقَلِّدٌ سَيْفَهُ، فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ كَانَتْ قُرَيْشٌ قَدْ بَعَثَتْهُ لِيَفْتِكَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ؛ فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، أَرِنِي سَيْفَكَ هَذَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: هَاكَ.
فَأَخَذَهُ؛ فَجَعَلَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى السَّيْفِ مَرَّةً، وَإِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ مَرَّةً؛ فَقَالَ: أَمَا تَخَافُنِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ؟ قَالَ: لَا. فَغَمَدَ سَيْفَهُ، وَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَصْحَابه الرحيل ".
