"And [there is] no responsibility upon those who fear Allah for anything of their account," meaning: the believers are not responsible for the reckoning of the polytheists; that is, if they sit with them, "but [only] a reminder, that they might fear Allah." Al-Kalbi said:
The companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whenever the polytheists mocked the Book of Allah, we would stand up and leave them, and we would not enter the mosque or circumambulate the House." So Allah granted a concession to the believers and said: "And [there is] no responsibility upon those who fear Allah for anything of their account, but [only] a reminder, that they might fear Allah." Thus, it became incumbent upon the Muslims to remind them as much as they were able.
Surat al-An'am from verse (70) only.
﴿وَمَا على الَّذين يَتَّقُونَ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْء﴾ يَعْنِي: الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ حِسَابِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ؛ أَيْ: إِنْ قَعَدُوا مَعَهُمْ ﴿وَلَكِنْ ذِكْرَى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ﴾ قَالَ الْكَلْبِيُّ:
قَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ: إِنَّا كُنَّا كُلَّمَا اسْتَهْزَأَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ بِكَتَابِ اللَّهِ قُمْنَا وَتَرَكْنَاهُمْ لَمْ نَدْخُلِ الْمَسْجِدَ وَلَمْ نَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ، فَرَخَّصَ اللَّهُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ؛ فَقَالَ: ﴿وَمَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَلَكِن ذكرى لَعَلَّهُم يَتَّقُونَ﴾ فَكَانَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَنْ يَذْكُرُوهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَاعُوا.
سُورَة الْأَنْعَام من الْآيَة (٧٠) فَقَط.
