"Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, the authority," meaning: understanding and intellect, "and prophethood. But if they disbelieve in it," Al-Hasan said: meaning, the polytheists, "then We have entrusted it," meaning: the prophethood, "to a people who are not disbelievers therein," meaning: the prophets whom He mentioned: David, Solomon, and others of the prophets mentioned in the verse.
﴿أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ﴾ يَعْنِي: الْفَهْمَ وَالْعَقْلَ ﴿وَالنُّبُوَّةَ فَإِنْ يكفر بهَا هَؤُلَاءِ﴾ قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: يَعْنِي: الْمُشْرِكِينَ ﴿فَقَدْ وكلنَا بهَا﴾ بِالنُّبُوَّةِ ﴿قَوْمًا لَيْسُوا بِهَا بِكَافِرِينَ﴾ يَعْنِي: النَّبِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ ذَكَرَ: دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَغَيْرَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ الْمَذْكُورِينَ فِي الْآيَة.
