"And so that the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter may incline toward it," meaning the hearts of the polytheists incline toward what the devils inspire. "And that they may be satisfied with it, and that they may commit what they are committing," meaning: that they may acquire what they are acquiring.
Muhammad said: The preferred recitation for the words "and that they may be satisfied with it" (wa-li-yardawhu) and "and that they may commit" (wa-li-yaqtarifu) is with the sukūn (the absence of a vowel) on the lam; based on the fact that the lam is the lam of command (lām al-amr), and the meaning is one of threat and warning.
