"And he swore to both of them" by Allah.
Qatada said:
He swore to both of them by Allah and said to them: 'I was created before you both, and I am more knowledgeable than you both; so follow me, and I will guide you.'
"So he misled them by deception. And when they tasted the tree, their private parts became apparent to them." Muhammad said:
﴿وقاسمهما﴾ بِاللَّهِ.
قَالَ قَتَادَةُ:
حَلَفَ لَهُمَا بِاللَّهِ، وَقَالَ لَهُمَا: خُلِقْتُ قَبْلَكُمَا، وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ مُنْكُمَا؛ فَاتَّبِعَانِي أُرْشِدُكُمَا.
﴿فلادهما بِغُرُورٍ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا الشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهما سوءاتهما﴾ قَالَ محمدٌ:
