His saying: "So he misled them by deception." The meaning is: He brought them down into disobedience by deceiving them. Al-saw'ah (the private part) is a metonymy for the genitals. "And they began"—meaning: they set out—"to patch together for themselves from the leaves of Paradise." Mujahid said: It means: patching them together like the form of a garment. "And their Lord called to them," the verse.
Yahya narrated from Sa'id, from Qatada, from al-Hasan, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Adam was a tall man, as if he were a towering palm tree, with much hair on his head. When that which occurred to him occurred, his private part became apparent to him, and he had not seen it before that. So he went off running through Paradise, and a tree from the trees of Paradise caught his hair. He said to it:
