His saying: "So he misled them by deception." The meaning is: He brought them down into disobedience by deceiving them. Al-saw'ah (the private part) is a metonymy for the genitals. "And they began"—meaning: they set out—"to patch together for themselves from the leaves of Paradise." Mujahid said: It means: patching them together like the form of a garment. "And their Lord called to them," the verse.
Yahya narrated from Sa'id, from Qatada, from al-Hasan, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said:

When that which occurred to him occurred, his private part became apparent to him, and he had not seen it before that.
