"And the good land—its vegetation comes forth by the permission of its Lord." Regarding the interpretation of al-Kalbi: This is a parable Allah has struck for the believer and the hypocrite. The good land is like the believer; whatever he does, he does for the sake of Allah. "But that which is bad" is like the hypocrite; he does not give anything and does not do anything "except with difficulty" (nakadan), meaning: he has no reward for it. "Thus do We explain the signs"—that is, We clarify them—"for a people who are grateful," meaning: who believe.

﴿وَالْبَلَدُ الطَّيِّبُ يَخْرُجُ نَبَاتُهُ بِإِذْنِ ربه﴾ تَفْسِيرُ الْكَلْبِيِّ:
هَذَا مَثَلٌ ضَرَبَهُ اللَّهُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ وَالْمُنَافِقِ؛ الْبَلَدُ الطَّيِّبُ مثل الْمُؤمن يَعْمَلُ مَا عَمِلَ مِنْ شيءٍ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ ﴿وَالَّذِي خَبُثَ﴾ مَثْلُ الْمُنَافِقِ لَا يُعْطِي شَيْئًا وَلَا يعمله ﴿إِلَّا نكدا﴾ أَيْ: لَيْسَتْ لَهُ فِيهِ حسبةٌ ﴿كَذَلِك نصرف الْآيَات﴾ نبينها ﴿لقوم يشكرون﴾ يُؤمنُونَ.
