"Except for his wife, she was of those who remained [behind]," meaning: of those who remained in the punishment of Allah.
﴿إِلا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ﴾ يَعْنِي: مِنَ الْبَاقِينَ فِي عَذَابِ الله.
